Shockwave Therapy for Dogs & Cats

Non-Surgical Pain Relief & Accelerated Healing

Shockwave therapy — also known as extracorporeal shock wave therapy (ESWT) — is a non-invasive treatment that uses high-energy acoustic waves to stimulate your pet’s natural healing response.

At Maryland Animal Chiropractic, shockwave therapy is used to reduce pain, improve mobility, and support long-term recovery for dogs and cats suffering from orthopedic and musculoskeletal conditions.

What Is Shockwave Therapy?

Shockwave therapy works by delivering targeted sound waves into injured tissue.  These acoustic pulses:

  • Stimulate blood flow
  • Activate cellular repair
  • Encourage collagen production
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Block pain signals

The result?  Faster healing and improved comfort—without surgery.

Conditions Shockwave Therapy Can Help Treat

Shockwave therapy is commonly used for:

  • Osteoarthritis
  • Hip dysplasia
  • Tendonitis
  • Ligament injuries
  • Cranial cruciate ligament (CCL) injuries
  • Spondylitis
  • Intervertebral disc disease (IVDD)
  • Trigger points and muscle strains

If your pet struggles with chronic pain or limited mobility, shockwave therapy may be an effective alternative to long-term medication or invasive procedures.

What to Expect During Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave therapy sessions are designed to be efficient, gentle, and low-stress for your pet.

During treatment, a handheld device delivers targeted acoustic waves to the affected area. These sound waves stimulate circulation and activate the body’s natural healing response.

Because the device produces sound during treatment, we gently protect your pet’s ears to ensure they remain calm and comfortable. This is simply part of our thoughtful care protocol. Most dogs and cats tolerate treatment very well, and many remain relaxed throughout the session.

Shockwave therapy is non-invasive and does not require surgery. Some pets may experience mild temporary sensitivity in the treated area, but serious side effects are rare. Many pet owners notice improvements in mobility and comfort within just a few visits.

Treatment frequency varies depending on your pet’s specific condition, and a personalized plan will be discussed during your consultation.
